Cocktail Chronicles 014: Brown Derby

The Brown Derby was born in a bar on the famous Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California. It was created in the 1930’s at the Vendome Club - which is one of the first, if not the first, celebrity packed restaurants & bars on Sunset Boulevard.

The cocktail was named in honor of a nearby restaurant called the Brown Derby. After its conception at the Vendome Club, the Brown Derby restaurant aptly made this recipe their house cocktail.

Although the Brown Derby is a fairly easy cocktail to create, as it only features three ingredients, it does have a robust combination of flavors and ingredients. This three ingredient cocktail uses honey syrup to perfectly harmonize the spice found in bourbon and the tart citrus of grapefruit.
