The story of how the Espresso Martini came to be is perhaps our favorite that we have come across. Perhaps it’s the spontaneity or maybe it is how the drink was requested. Either way, it is a fun story and a delicious cocktail perfect for after dinner.
The Espresso Martini was created by famous London bartender Dick Bradshell in the late 80’s. There is some speculation about who exactly made the request of Mr. Bradshell; however, the request was for him to make a cocktail that would “wake me up and then fuck me up.” We’ve heard some say that it was Kate Moss but also have heard others say that it was Heidi Klum. Either way it was some supermodel that made the request and on the fly Bradshell ingeniously created what we now know as the Espresso Martini. And we must say, the Espresso Martini more than fulfills the Supermodel’s request!
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces of Vodka
- 1 ounce of Espresso (or Cold Brew concentrate)
- ½ ounce of Coffee Liquor (typically Kahlua)
- ½ ounce simple syrup*.
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake until well-chilled.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with 3 coffee beans.
*We choose to omit the simple syrup because of the sweetness that is already found in the Kahlua. Perhaps try it both ways and decide which way you prefer. If you are using another dryer coffee liquor such as Mr. Black, we suggest to include the simple syrup. Cheers!
